In 2007 the popular Georgia outdoors club, "The Night Shift Adventurers" joined forces with
some experienced wilderness guides and Appalachian Trail "Thru-Hikers" and became Atlanta Adventurers. In 2010 that group
became Appalachian Wilderness Guides - the most personable GUIDED BACKPACKING / CAMPING / OUTDOORS EDUCATIONAL GROUP in the Southeast ! In 2014 we moved our location from Atlanta to a beautiful building an easy 1/2 mile walk from the Appalachian Trail in Georgia and simultaneously opened up the Top of Georgia Hostel and Hiking Center at the same location. After more than 1,000 AT thru-hikers passed through our facility in only 2 months - we opened up the newest location of The AT School at that locale as well.
Appalachian Wilderness Guides is an "outdoors think-tank" that strives to educate folks on the responsible usage of outdoors recreation areas and their resources. We work extensively with the Georgia State Parks ("Appalachian Trail Kickoff", "Wilderness Survival Weekend", "Thanksgiving Appalachian Storyteller", etc.) doing that educational work and we are strong advocates of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Our eagerness to help hikers and our "how to" advice - can be heard about on the trails, throughout the hiking community, and all over the internet. We accept voluntary donations only for our trips - as we strive to educate folks about the outdoors. Funds collected are being used to reinburse our trip leaders and teachers for expenses. Our ultimate goal to open an outdoors interpretive center in the North Georgia Mountains nearby the Appalachian Trail (to be used in perpetuity by hikers, visitors, and the citizens of Georgia) is currently in the works - and is the longterm goal for the "Top of Georgia Hostel & Hiking Center".
